Heat transfer through a lagged pipe is an experiment that involves measuring the heat flow rate and thermal conductivity of insulating materials. The experiment uses a device with three concentric pipes, an inner pipe heater, and two layers of insulating material. Thermocouples measure the temperature at the pipe surfaces, and the heater input is varied to calculate the heat flow rate. The thermal conductivity of each insulating layer and the combined materials can then be determined using the heat flow rate and temperature differences.The heat transfer formula through conduction is given by: Q/t = kA((T1-T2)/l), where Q/t is the rate of heat transfer, k is the thermal conductivity of the material, A is the cross-sectional area, T1-T2 is the temperature difference, and l is the thickness.
