Anemometers
An anemometer is an instrument used to measure the speed or velocity of wind and, in some cases, its direction. It is commonly used in meteorology, environmental studies, and various industrial applications to monitor airflow.
Types of Anemometers:
Cup Anemometers:
Design: Consists of three or four cups attached to horizontal arms mounted on a vertical rod.
Function: The wind pushes the cups, causing them to rotate. The speed of rotation correlates with wind speed, which is then calculated and displayed.
Common Uses: Weather stations, wind turbines.
Hot-wire Anemometers:
Design: A thin, electrically heated wire is exposed to airflow.
Function: As air flows over the wire, it cools down, affecting the wire's electrical resistance. This change in resistance is used to calculate the wind speed.
Common Uses: Research, laboratories, HVAC systems.
