Nara charcoal, also known as binchotan or white charcoal, is a premium type of charcoal traditionally produced in Japan. It is made from hardwood, typically oak, and is known for its high quality and unique properties. The production process involves heating the wood at a lower temperature over a prolonged period, followed by a final high-temperature phase in the presence of limited oxygen. This method results in an exceptionally hard and dense charcoal with a smooth, metallic luster on its surface.
